 In the year 1991, in the era of globalization, with the help of the government, private sector companies started developing software and it registered a lot of growth.  In 1998, the Government of India declared information technology as the future of India.  In 1991, the duty imposed on exporting computers to other countries was removed.  Software companies were given tax relief for up to 10 years on export profits.  Now multinational companies have been allowed to enter the country with 100% equity.
